AMC has passed on pilots Knifeman and Galyntine. This marks three consecutive drama pilots at AMC not to go forward, following the pass to Line of Sight in March.
It has been 15 months since the network last picked up a pilot to series — both Turn and Halt and Catch Fire in July 2013 — as AMC has been shifting strategy to more straight-to-series orders over the past year, including Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul, martial arts drama Badlands and UK co-production Humans. The net has two high-profile pilot in the works, the Stephen Gaghan-directed Afghanistan drama White City, and the untitled Walking Dead companion.
Additionally, Preacher, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin’s adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial 1990s comic book series, has been heating up for a pilot order, and the network earlier this month held a fall round of producer meetings on seven drama projects in consideration for a pilot pickup.
Galyntine and Knifeman both were swings for AMC as they explored new content territories – Galyntine was about a technology-induced disaster that has resulted in a new society that has eschewed any form of technology and Knifeman about a surgeon in 18th century London. Neither was flashy or featured known actors, something that helps new programs with no title recognition break through the clutter. ..

Magic City’ Becomes Feature; Bruce Willis & Bill Murray Join Original Starz Cast
The Mitch Glazer-created period Miami casino mob series Magic City, which Starz canceled last year after a two-season run, is moving to the big screen.
Glazer wrote the script and will direct series regulars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danny Huston, Olga Kurylenko and Kelly Lynch, who’ll be joined by Bruce Willis, Bill Murray and others. Len Blavatnik of AI Film, Brett Ratner of RatPac and Gerry Schwartz of Onex Corporation will produce and finance, with Steve Bing of Shangri-La Entertainment, Alan J. Helene and Glazer producing. QED will introduce the project to buyers
The pitch: Miami 1962. Gangsters, hoteliers, spies and socialites win, lose and die beneath the palms. JFK and a mob boss share a mistress in a Collins Avenue penthouse. The CIA secretly arms Cuban freedom fighters and hires the mafia to kill Castro. The most powerful Miami Beach hotel owner battles them all to save his family and survive in the Magic City. Glazer previously helmed Passion Play and has written such films as Scrooged, The Recruit, Great Expectations and the upcoming Rock The Kasbah, which he also produced along with QED.
“Mitch is a fantastic creative partner, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with him again,” Block said. “We loved Magic City the series and know that with Mitch’s sensational script and this outstanding cast, it will translate beautifully to the big screen.”
Muss ich mich wohl doch bald mal mit der Serie ranhalten.
Fittingly for Halloween, TNT has given a pilot order to a drama that has monsters in it. The network has picked up Breed, from writer/novelist John Scott Shepherd (Life Or Something Like It), director Scott Winant (Fargo) and producer Nicky Weinstock of Invention Film Co. That makes six pilot orders at TNT and TBS made in the past two months without a top programming executive at the network, following the departure of Michael Wright. His and his former boss Steve Koonin’s posts are still vacant, with former Fox chairman Kevin Reilly recently restarting talks for the job.
Breed, which TNT bought as a spec in the spring, tells the wild and chilling story of a series of brutal murders in the Pacific Northwest and the mysterious race of creatures who may be committing them. Despite his own mental instability, a gifted detective named Cooper Wells embarks on the case, employing his expertise on serial killers. But when the perpetrators start to reveal barbaric tendencies of an inhuman nature, Wells is forced to enlist the help of a powerful and alluring female assassin to track them
Edit:
