ITV Studios America and HDFILMS, the company behind ABC's reimagining of "V," are prepping a contemporary iteration of the 1970s space franchise.
Fox’s Kevin Williamson pilot has assembled a formidable leading duo, with Rome alum James Purefoy signing on for the second starring role opposite Kevin Bacon. The untitled project, from Warner Bros TV and Williamson’s studio-based Outerbanks Entertainment, is described as an edge-of-the-seat thriller about Joe Carroll (Purefoy) a diabolical serial killer who uses technology to create a cult of serial killers, and a retired FBI profiler (Bacon) who finds himself in the middle of it.
Marcos Siega is set to direct the pilot, written and executive produced by Williamson, creator of Dawson’s Creek, the hit Scream horror movie franchise and co-creator/executive producer of the CW’s Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle.
Like Bacon, Purefoy was among the most sought-after actors this pilot season. He was holding 4 offers when he picked the Kevin Williamson drama. The project may have had extra appeal because of the fact that, if it goes to series, it will produce 15 episodes a season instead of the standard 22. That was part of Bacon’s deal to star in it. British actor Purefoy, best known for his role as Mark Anthony on the HBO/BBC series Rome, will next be seen in the feature John Carter.

In a rare TV directing gig, The Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor has been tapped to direct FX’s Cold War period drama pilot The Americans. The project, created/executive produced by Joe Weisberg (Falling Skies) and executive produced by Justified showrunner Graham Yost, centers on two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington, DC in the early 1980s. Weisberg, a former CIA officer-turned-novelist-turned-TV writer, Yost and DreamWorks TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are executive producing for Fox TV Studios and FX Prods. CAA-repped O’Connor’s latest feature, Warrior has been garnering accolades for co-star Nick Nolte, including an Oscar nomination.

Space: 2099 is poised for a comeback.
ITV Studios America and HDFILMS announced plans for a reimagining of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's famed franchise of the 1970s, then called Space: 1999. The news comes months after Fox and producer Seth MacFarlane announced they would be reviving Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey, a 1980s miniseries from Carl Sagan.
"Science fiction is a powerful format capable of visualizing the human condition in thought-provoking ways," said HDFilms president Jace Hall, who will spearhead the effort and serve as an executive producer. The project is in the development phase and has yet to be shopped to networks.
"While we are indeed re-imagining the franchise and bringing something new and relevant to today’s audiences," continued Hall, who recently revived V at ABC, "I feel strongly that some of the overall tones set by the original Space: 1999 television show represent an exciting platform to explore possibilities.”
Added ITV Studios International's managing director Paul Buccieri: “After more than 35 years, we are thrilled to be developing a new vision of our much beloved franchise for audiences worldwide. Historically, the Space: 1999 brand has entertained and fascinated millions of people."
Einzelkind hat geschrieben:But Murphy goes on to say that Season 2 is "going to be somewhere on the East Coast and it's going to be a 'horror institution.'"Ich hatte ja eigentlich gehofft, dass es ein anderes Subgenre und nicht wieder ein verwunschenes Gebäude wird, aber in einer Irrenanstalt, Krankenhaus, Gefängnis, wasauchimmer gibt es immerhin genug Möglichkeiten, um sich eindeutig von Staffel 1 abzugrenzen.
Bekanntlich Ben Afflecks bester Film
