Ciaran Hinds (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) has joined Political Animals, USA Network’s 6-episode drama series from Greg Berlanti, Laurence Mark and Warner Horizon, which premieres this summer. Written by Berlanti, the Washington DC-based series is a fictional look at a former first family that exposes a dynasty weakened by political ambition, lust and greed. It centers on Elaine Barrish (Sigourney Weaver), the divorced former First Lady and newly appointed Secretary of State who throws herself into the job after recovering from the dissolution of her marriage to Bud Hammond (Hinds) and losing the presidential nomination. She attempts to keep her family together, while simultaneously dealing with crises of the State Department and a hungry DC journalist (Carla Gugino) bent on destroying her career. Hinds’ jovial ex-president Bud Hammond is a gifted politician who was once loved by the American public but has struggled since his divorce from Elaine, and his out-of-office antics have caused a tumble in his popularity. He is still as much in love with his ex-wife as the office he once held and is eager to take on the role of elder statesman if Elaine calls on him.

So fürchte ich immer noch einen Mix aus Commander in Chief und Brothers and Sisters, der seinen guten Cast kriminell unterfordert.

Also wenn die Serie nur halb so gut wie Berlantis erste "politic themed" Serie (Jack & Bobby) wird, dann ist sie schon mal mindestens doppelt so gut wie jede andere USA Serie seit The 4400...

Zudem stammt auch Everwood von Berlanti und egal ob man diese Serie als seicht bezeichnen will oder nicht...sie war auf jeden Fall auch sehr gut!

Mag Everwood auf seinem Gebiet sogar sein. Wenn Political Animals in die Edel-Familiensoap Richtung geht, wäre es trotzdem nichts für mich.

Also genau wie bei Brothers & Sisters oder den anderen USA-Shows, die ich in ihren Subgenres auch nicht per se als schlecht bezeichnen würde, aber die mich entweder a) schon vom Ansatz nicht im Geringsten interessieren oder b)nicht witzig, spannend, clever oder schlicht unterhaltsam genug sind, um die Belanglosigkeit auf anderem Gebiet wettzumachen.
Schlimmer als seine Familiendramedies finde ich deshalb auch seine Superhelden-Stories. Dort kann ich es nicht damit schön reden, dass es nicht mein Bier ist. Die sind mies geschrieben und nur durch den Cast bzw. die Effekte vorm Komplettuntergang gerettet.

Everwood war wirklich eine sehr gute Familienserie, Brothers & Sisters war in erster Linie verpasstes Potential und das gilt für alles von Berlanti seit Everwood, jüngstes Beispiel Green Lantern.

Anthology drama series Unknown, Crackle.com’s first long-form scripted show, has assembled a cast and locked in directors. Frances Fisher (The Lincoln Lawyer), William Atherton (Life) and Taryn Manning (Hawaii Five-0) will star in installments of the thriller/horror anthology, which examines unexplained phenomena. Kevin Connolly (Entourage) will direct an episode featuring Jay R. Ferguson (Mad Men), visual effects specialist Sam Nicholson (The Walking Dead) will direct another episode featuring Christina Pickles, and APA-repped Martha Coolidge will directs the rest of the six half-hour episodes. Zumindest sind ein paar bekanntere Namen an Bord. Es besteht also die Chance, dass es schauspielerisch besser ist, als das was ich bisher von Cinemax Low-Budget Anthologie "Femme Fatales" gesehen habe.

Hugh Dancy To Star in Hannibal series

Here’s a nice, juicy piece of casting to go with your fava beans and chianti: Hugh Dancy has landed a starring role in Hannibal, NBC’s contemporary series take on on the characters from Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon novel.

The project, written and exec produced by Pushing Diasies creator Bryan Fuller, centers on the budding relationship between FBI agent Will Graham (played by Dancy) and his mentor Dr. Hannibal Lecter – who are re-introduced at the beginning of their budding relationship.

Dancy, whose TV credits include The Big C and Elizabeth I, is currently starring on Broadway in Venus Fur.

Juhu, ich mag Hugh Dancy und ich traue Bryan Fuller auch eine gute Serie zu, aber so lange man nicht den Schauspieler für Hannibal gecastet hat, bin ich noch ein wenig skeptisch.

NBC’s Munsters reboot has adopted its first family member: Eddie Izzard!

Sources confirm to TVLine that the former Riches patriarch is nearing a deal to play Grandpa in the high profile pilot, which is now being called Mockingbird Lane.

The role was originated by Al Lewis in classic ’60s version.

The project, which was originally slated to go into production this month but got pushed back until early summer due to casting issues, is being stewarded by Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller and X-Men auteur Bryan Singer. Whereas the original was a comedy, the remake is being billed by NBC as a “visually spectacular one hour drama.”

Terra Nova on the Brink of Extinction as Talks With Netflix End

Time is running out for Terra Nova.

Negotiations between the show’s producer, 20th Century Fox Television, and Netflix have stalled, with the two sides unable to come to a deal to extend the series, our sister sister Deadline reports.

Although the studio is not yet releasing the actors from their contracts, there is little hope of finding another viable suitor to pick up the dino-drama, which was canceled by Fox earlier this month.

Last Tuesday at the Television Academy Foundation’s TV Summit, 20th Century Fox Television co-chairman Dana Walden told TVLine, “We were discussing one additional option, but Netflix is the one that we’re having the most active conversations with right now.”

Several of Terra Nova’s cast members have already moved on with new pilots. Jason O’Mara is guest starring in CBS’ untitled period drama about rodeo cowboy-turned-Vegas sheriff Ralph Lamb, Allison Miller has nabbed a part in NBC’s Matthew Perry comedy Go On and Christine Adams has joined ABC’s fashion-set drama Americana.

Ich hab jetzt die vier Folgen gesehen und es ist ziemlich unterhaltsam bis witzig verrückt. Die Charaktere werden langsam auch ausgebaut und evtl. gibt es noch einen roten Faden bzgl. des Todes im Piloten.

EW hat die Serie passend beschrieben: "ABC's newest guilty pleasure, which at this point can only be described as Revenge + Mean Girls + (The View x Friday Night Lights) divided by a healthy dose of Real Housewives of Bethlehem." :lol: :lol:

Ich habs nach der zweiten Folge aufgegeben. Mir war das einfach zu "künstlich", übertrieben, was auch immer. Desperate Housewives ist da für mich dann doch die etwas "normalere" Vorstadt und bei Suburgatory ist die Satire in 20-Minuten-Dosis für mich einfach leichter zu (v)ertragen und hat zudem die sympathischeren Charaktere.
Eigentlich schade, weil ich Kristin Chenoweth gerne wieder regelmäßig gesehen hätte, aber gerade deren Rolle ist mir einfach too much.

AMC Developing Football Drama ‘The Real All Americans’
Producers are in discussions with Tommy Lee Jones to direct the pilot, about the Native American college football program that minted Olympian Jim Thorpe.

AMC is in the early stages of development on the football drama The Real All Americans. Based on Sally Jenkins’ book about the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Real All Americans chronicles the school's storied football program created by U.S. cavalry officer Richard Henry Pratt, an abolitionist and early equal rights proponent who made a harrowing journey to the Dakota Territory in 1879 to recruit the school's first students.

Producers are in discussions with Tommy Lee Jones to direct the pilot if AMC moves forward. Nicholas Meyer (best known as the writer of various Star Trek films) is writing the script with Harry J. Ufland (The Last Temptation of Christ, the upcoming Robert DeNiro-Diane Keaton romantic comedy The Wedding) onboard as producer.

Pratt’s football program had a stunning win-loss record (167-88-13) and produced a string of famous athletes and coaches – including Olympian Jim Thorpe and coach Glenn “Pop” Warner. The subject matter is close to Jones’ heart. The actor, who grew up in Texas, is of Cherokee descent. He also played defensive tackle at Harvard, where he was selected as a 1968 All-Ivy League nominee and played in the infamous ’68 Harvard-Yale game that featured a stunning 16-point Harvard comeback in the final minute of the game to tie Yale. Jones recounted the story for the 2008 documentary Harvard Beats Yale 29-29.

The Real All Americans would give AMC another period piece and also one that deals with racial issues. Hell on Wheels is set in 1865 during the post-Civil War construction of the first transcontinental railroad. The Western is AMC’s highest-rated series after The Walking Dead, with the first season averaging 3 million viewers after a series premiere watched by 4.4 million. The second season of Hell on Wheels bows later this year.

With Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Killing, AMC currently has five scripted dramas on its schedule. Rubicon was the only series in recent development seasons that did not make the cut for a second season. The high success ratio is a result of the network's selective development process. So if Real All Americans gets picked up to pilot, odds are good that the network will move forward to series.

“If there’s something we care enough about to get into the pilot process, we feel like we’re producing the first episode of the series,” AMC president Charlie Collier told The Hollywood Reporter. “And that requires a ton of rigorous development where we really take it ultra seriously.”

Wenn Tommy Lee Jones eh schon auf dem Set wäre, könnte er auch gleich die Hauptrolle übernehmen.

Showtime is adding to its growing development coffers with projects from The Descendants' Alexander Payne, his producing partner Jim Taylor and Frost/Nixon’s Peter Morgan.

The untitled Payne-Taylor project, a mix of dark humor and emotional drama, will explore the impact of a new Indian Casino on its tribe members and its greater Mid-western community. News of the hour-long project comes a month after Payne picked up an Academy Award for penning The Descendants.

The Maze, for its part, hails from Morgan, the Academy Award-nominated writer behind both The Queen and Frost/Nixon. His drama project is being described as an international political thriller in the mode of Bourne Identity. This past fall, the network had particularly good fortune with its politically-themed CIA thriller, Homeland, a drama even President Obama acknowledges he watches.

Both are fitting projects for entertainment president David Nevins, who has actively looked to broaden the premium network's offerings since he took Showtime's reigns in the summer of 2010. "Showtime got taken seriously with Weeds, Dexter and Nurse Jackie; what I’ve done is challenge some of the formulas because we had gotten a little rigid in what we were doing," he says of a slate that had relied heavily on dramedies centerted on damaged 40-something women, noting his desire to bring more males, more hard comedy and more culturally relevant drama to the network.

The pair of dramas, both Showtime Productions, join such development projects as John Wells’ Animal Kingdom, Salman Rushdie’s Next People and an untitled Lee Daniels’ drama in Showtime's development coffers. Kingdom is based on the Australian film about a cold-blooded crime family, while People deals with the radical pace of transformation in contemporary American life -- from politics and religion to technology, science and sexuality. The Daniels project, which is set in contemporary New York City, centers on the disenfranchised multicultural transgender youth.
