Suits fand ich deutlich besser als Fairly Legal. Mehr als nett anzuschaun ist das aber auch nicht. Eine anschaubare Sommerserie.

In etwa dasselbe Niveau wie "Franklin & Bash", vielleicht ein klitzekleines bißchen ernsthafter.

Franklin & Bash kann ja immer hin noch etwas mit dem "Rockstar-Anwaelte im Gerichtssaal" ueberzeugen, aber wenn Suits ernsthaft sein will, sollen die auch bitte realistisch sein. Und das hat im Pilot mal so gar nicht funktioniert.

Zu Beginn ist Boardwalk zwar wirklich ziemlich langsam und in die Breite erzählt(was mich aber zum Glück nicht stört. Wenn mich die Charaktere und die Story-Brüchstücke interessieren, kann es für mich nicht langsam genug sein. Hätte nichts gegen eine Folge, die nur im Wohnzimmer von Al Capone spielt oder bei GOT eine Fechtstunde von Arya zeigt.), aber in der zweiten Staffelhälfte gibt es schon einiges an Plot, der auch gar nicht so selten von Spannungshöhepunkten begleitet wird.

Die Prämisse muß man natürlich schlucken. Die Frage ist: Will ich die Geschichte auf ihren Realitätsgehalt abklopfen oder will ich zum Zeitvertreib eine nette Sommerserie anschauen. Die Chemie zwischen den Charakteren stimmt, die Darsteller machen ihren Job recht gut, die Dialoge sind einigermaßen spritzig und solange man immer im Hinterkopf behält, daß das hier nicht "Mad Men" ist, macht die Serie genauso viel Spaß wie etwa "White Collar" oder "Psych".

Bei jedem anderen Sender würde ich mich wahrscheinlich über die Vorurteile aufregen, aber bei USA trifft wirklich jedes davon zu. Der Sender hat meiner Meinung nach keinerlei Existenzberechtigung außer redlock zu unterhalten.

HBO had signed on Darren Aronofsky – lauded director of five feature films, including Black Swan, The Wrestler, and Requiem for a Dream – to direct “Hobgoblin,” a new drama pilot in development. The pilot will be written by husband-and-wife team Michael Chabon and Ayelet Waldman, who will also executive produce, along with John Lesher and Adam Kassan.

Ayelet Waldman was kind enough to do a brief Q&A with us — about the series, collaborating with her Pulitzer Prize-winning husband, and her own work. She is the author of three novels, including Love and Other Impossible Pursuits (2006), which was adapted into the film The Other Woman (2009) starring Natalie Portman, and most recently Red Hook Road. In 2009, she published the NY Times best-selling memoir Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace. Before starting her writing career — with a series of crime novels, the Mommy-Track Mysteries – and before starting a family with Chabon, Waldman also had a career as a federal public defender.

The Millions: The subject matter for Hobgoblin – i.e. the role of magicians in deceiving Hitler during World War II – is fascinating, and very particular. Where did the idea for the series originate?

Ayelet Waldman: Michael and I had decided we wanted to write a contemporary series, set locally so that we wouldn’t have to travel, so that everyone could just roll out of bed and go to work. So, of course, as soon as we limited our imaginations to California in 2011, we came up with Britain in 1941.

TM: Is there a lot of research involved in writing the pilot, or had you and your husband Michael Chabon already been engaged in the subject matter?

AW: Tons. And that’s the best part. We’ve been reading everything we can get our hands on about the period, we’ve been watching old movies (which is tremendous fun). I was pretty well immersed in the period already — I am writing a novel set, in part, in Salzburg in 1945 — and Michael spent five years of his life sleeping, breathing, dreaming the Golden Age of comic books, and wrote a novella about war time Britain (Final Solution) so the time period is a comfortable one for us.

TM: Is Jasper Maskelyne and his Magic Gang the inspiration, and will they appear as characters? (There’s buzz on the Internet about this, inquiring minds apparently want to know!)

AW: Details are officially under wraps. I can and will tell you this — we have made up all the characters in the story. None are based on anyone who actually existed.

TM: Your husband has been involved in several film projects, and you have also had a novel adapted into a film; but this is the first TV project for both of you?

AW: We’ve both been happily employed in the health insurance scam that is pilot season before (write a pilot, get a year of health insurance from the writer’s guild). Neither of us has been lucky enough to have any of our pilots produced yet.

TM: How, so far, has the process of writing a TV pilot been different from writing a film screenplay? Or a novel?

AW: It’s a delightful combination of screenwriting and novel writing. A teleplay is, of course, very much like a screenplay, but because there exists at least the potential of a series, you are allowed to set plot and character elements in motion that can take a long time to play out and pay off. This is far more similar to the process of plotting a novel.

TM: You mentioned in another interview that you and your husband are very supportive of each other’s work, but what is it like collaborating this closely on a writing project? How have you found that your interests/strengths complement (or clash)?

AW: Our interests are very complementary, though they are of course also very different. In this instance, we both love the world of cons and con men, of Vaudeville. We’re infatuated by the romance of wartime Britain’s Keep Calm and Carry On ethos. Magic is more Michael’s purview.

We clash, of course. Constantly. It wouldn’t be fun if we didn’t. We are one another’s biggest fans and harshest critics. I don’t know if members of other writing teams make vomiting sounds when they don’t like a partner’s suggestion. (In fairness, only I do this. Michael is much more likely to bark a gruff, “No.”)

TM: How did the collaboration with Darren Aronofsky come about?

AW: Luck. We both love Mr. Aronofsky’s work, but it’s the producer of the project, the multi-talented John Lesher, who gets credit for convincing him to come on board.

TM: As Executive Producers, have you envisioned in detail the entire series beyond the pilot? If so, how many episodes?

The series takes place during World War II and begins in 1941. You do the math. How many episodes? 529. We plan to beat “The Simpsons.”

(Right now, we are only just writing the pilot. We are a million miles away from going to series.)

Slumdog Millionaire" star Dev Patel has been cast in Aaron Sorkin's drama pilot for HBO.

Patel joins the impressive roster of names set for "More As This Story Develops," including Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Sam Waterston and Olivia Munn. Set in the world of cable news, "Develops" will also feature Patel as a series regular who works at the channel.

Since breaking out in the Oscar-winning "Slumdog," Patel has also starred in "The Last Airbender." While this may be his first U.S. series, the Indian-born actor was in the Brit hit "Skins."

TNT Picks Up New Dallas
TNT has ordered to series and set a premiere timetable for its continuation of the iconic Dallas saga.

The new series featuring faces both fresh and very familiar will bow in the summer of 2012, the network announced on Friday. But seeing as that feels so, so far away, fans can get a sneak preview of Dallas this coming Monday, during the season openers of The Closer (9/8c) and Rizzoli & Isles (10/9c).

Here now, the cast:



The cast for TNT’s Dallas — which reacquaints us with the clans visited upon during the original CBS drama’s 1978-1991 run — includes Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives), Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious), Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives). They will be joined by original series faves Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman (reprising their roles of Bobby, Sue Ellen and J.R. Ewing, respectively).

As previously reported by TVLine, Metcalfe was cast as Bobby and Pam’s son Christopher, Henderson is J.R.’s son John Ross, and Brewster plays a ranch cook’s daughter who will be caught in a triangle with the aforementioned lads — frothy, seeing as Gonzalo plays Chris’ fiancée, Rebecca! Strong plays Bobby Ewing’s new wife, Ann.

Two more Dallas vets, Charlene Tilton (aka Lucy Ewing) and Steve Kanaly (Ray Krebbs), will make appearances in the pilot, but are not series regulars, TNT tells me.

TNT also is unveiling DallasTNT.com, a website dedicated to the new series.

Lone Star‘s James Wolk has booked a multi-episode arc on the second season of Showtime’s Shameless, the cabler confirms.

The in-demand actor will play Adam, an investment executive who makes a connection with Emmy Rossum’s Fiona.

Wolk joins a Season 2 guest cast that also includes Zach McGowan, who will recur as a love interest for Laura Wiggins’ Karen.

Das gibt mir neben der fantastischen Emmy Rossum einen weiteren Grund bei Staffel 2 von Shameless reinzuschauen, nachdem mich Staffel 1 nicht vollständig überzeugt hat.

Kristen Bell’s dance card on House of Lies is officially pretty damn full.

The new Showtime comedy has cast Melrose Place‘s Michael Rady and Carnivàle‘s Nick Stahl as love interests for Bell’s corporate consultant character, Jeannie, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Rady will play the recurring role of Wes, a moneyed golden boy who may be a bit too conservative for Jeannie. Stahl, meanwhile, will guest star in one episode as Kurt, a musician who makes Jeannie question what she wants out of life and love (my guess: no-strings sex with a hot musician).

Lies, based on Martin Kihn’s hit tell-all book How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time, revolves around dueling corporate management consulting firms. The cast also includes Don Cheadle, Ben Schwartz, Josh Lawson, Dawn Olivieri and Glynn Turman.

Juhu, Nick Stahl hat wieder eine neue TV-Rolle, nachdem sein Locke & Key Pilot leider durchgefallen ist (wann leakt der endlich btw. ? ). Eine Carnivale-Fortsetzung wäre mir zwar immer noch lieber, trotzdem freut es mich. Bin auch gespannt, wie sich "House Of Lies" von Showtimes anderen Comedies abheben wird. Die Serie wurde ja vom neuen Management bestellt und stellt mal nicht einen weiblichen Charakter mit einer quirky Eigenschaft oder einem Geheimnis in den Mittelpunkt. Von Homeland gibt es ja schon einen Trailer, von House Of Lies noch nicht.

@Dallas: Normalerweise würde ich über sowas lachen, aber nachdem TNT mich mit Falling Skies so positiv überrascht hat, wage ich es nicht Vorurteile zu haben.
