Pilot Review "The Loop" (FOX)
Premise: A guy right out of college tries to walk the fine line between working hard and playing hard when he becomes the first among his friends to get a real job (as a Chicago-based airline's youngest executive).
Starring: Bret Harrison as Sam, Eric Christian Olsen as Sully, Bret Harrison as Sam, Phillip Baker Hall as Russ, Mimi Rogers as Meryl, Joy Osmanski as Darcy
Review:
"The Loop" is a half-hour comedy that has a unique style. The camera shots and lack of laugh track is reminiscent of "Scrubs." Throughout the pilot we see comments in parentheses that add to the dialogue or action. For example, when we first see Sam it says "Sam (our hero)," sometimes it states time, other times it adds a little something to what is being said. It's a nice feature that needs to not be overused or it will get annoying. They also use camera shots where they single out a character to make him or her stand out. Not sure it will be used in the other episodes though, it may just have been to introduce characters.
The characters are fun. Sam's boss is as lovable as Dr. Kelso in "Scrubs." It's cool to see Mimi Rogers play a predator-like woman who works at the same airline company as Sam. Seeing Sam make his working life and party life both work together is fun. It shows that it's not easy to become an adult.
The soundtrack is a bit too much at times. The first song we hear is just awful but the rest is okay. Let's hope they will change the choice of songs before airing this pilot.
"The Loop" is worth watching if you enjoy comedies of different format than "Everybody Loves Raymond," "Friends," etc. Sadly, I'm not sure this will make it through an entire season due to its timeslot mainly. It has been difficult for networks to get good comedies lately. This one is promising though. Maybe FOX will give it its chance like it did for "Stacked."
"The Loop" will air Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. beginning next year.
Pilot review: The Loop (FOX)Livejournal/Spoilerfix
Premise: we see the life of a guy who is the first of his group who gets a real job, the rest are still studying or slacking.
Cast: Bret Harrison, Eric Christian Olsen, Philip Baker Hall, Mimi Rogers
Not bad actually, could improve considerably. Standouts are Philip Baker Hall as the main characters boss, he kicks ass and takes names. Also Mimi Rogers, as the crazy co-worker. Main character is working as a young executive at an airline that's not doing well. Meanwhile he has a crush on his female roommate, who doesn't know, and is in a relationship with a guy far away. Music is way too loud for my taste. Good visual jokes too.
