Insgesamt find ich es aber cool, welche Entwicklung das Fernsehen genommen hat, dass es keine Schmach mehr ist, in einer TV Serie zu spielen. Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Christian Slater bekommen Serien und Jeff Goldblum kehrt auch ins TV zurück.

ja das stimmt schon - wobei es trotzdem meist leute sind, die mal A-List waren und mittlerweile doch auf die obere B-List gerutscht sind

Würde ich nicht sagen, nur Slater in den 80ern und 90ern. Harvey Keitel und Tim Roths Karriere verläuft doch seit Jahr und Tag in den gleichen Bahnen. Entweder sie sind Leading in einem Independent Film oder Supporting in einem Blockbuster, daran hat sich nichts geändert. Jeff Goldblum hat zwar in 3 mega-erfolgreichen Filmen mitgespielt, aber Jurassic Park und Independence Day lebten ja eher von Effekten und weniger von Darstellern. Mir ging es auch weniger um die Popularität, sondern die Qualität.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and actors unite for Screen Actors Guild (SAG) board election

Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Rob Lowe and Patricia Heaton are among the thesps who have endorsed upstart SAG faction Unite for Strength, which is vying against incumbent group Membership First in the upcoming board election.

Unite for Strength is fielding 31 candidates for the 33 open slots (11 board seats plus 22 alternates) for the Hollywood division on the Screen Actors Guild’s national board of directors. Ballots will be sent out to SAG’s 120,000 members on Tuesday, with the vote tabulated on Sept. 18.

Unite for Strength’s platform centers around pushing for a merger with rival thesp union AFTRA in an effort to increase actors’ overall leverage at the negotiating table with the major studios.

Membership First, which currently dominates the Hollywood board seats, engaged in a public fight with AFTRA this summer over the primetime contract agreement AFTRA reached with the majors. SAG is in its second month without a current contract and at a negotiations stalemate with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which made its final offer to SAG on June 30.

In announcing its endorsements on Wednesday, Unite for Strength also included a letter penned by supporter Sally Field to the guild’s Hollywood membership that was highly critical of Membership First, which is led by SAG prexy Alan Rosenberg.

"With the most important contract negotiation in years pending, those board members — or more accurately, the overwhelming majority who call themselves ‘Membership First’ — decided to go to war with AFTRA, our sister union," Field wrote. "So here we are, negotiating on our own with diminished leverage against a united front of media conglomerates. Is this what we want for our future?"

Others giving their thumbs up to Unite for Strength include Lewis Black, Stephen Collins, Tim Daly, Jeff Daniels, Victor Garber, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Anthony LaPaglia, William H. Macy, Gary Sinise and Tony Shalhoub.

Es gibt die Theorie/These, dass es ein Gen gibt, dass Menschen zu Serienkillern macht. Soweit ich weiß ist das aber eben auch nicht mehr als eine Theorie, für die es keine Beweise gibt. Die Profilerin Helen Morrison vertritt die These, ich wiederum würde dann einfach mal meine Theorie in den Raum werfen, dass die gute Frau einfach Bücher verkaufen will.

Die letzten Folgen konzentrieren sich sehr auf die love story und diesbezüglich wird es ein bisschen viel. Wenn dir bei 1x09 die Serie noch nicht so gefällt, dann wird sie es wohl auch nach den letzten Folgen nicht mehr.

Ich finde es btw. merkwürdig, dass ich mich in dieser Season nur auf eine einzige neue Serie (Dollhouse) freue und mir der Rest vollkommen egal ist. Normalerweise habe ich um diese Zeit 5-10 neue Serien, die ich zumindest mal antesten will. Dieses Jahr allerdings nur eine einzige. Naja, habe ich etwas mehr Zeit zur Verfügung.

Nö, es gibt ja schon einige neue Serien, die angekündigt wurden. Bei FRINGE, was z.B. ja auch so gehyped wird und so toll sein soll, döste ich auch während der Pilotfolge weg und werde es demnach nicht gucken. Es gibt zwar schon noch ein paar Pilot-Projekte (bei ABC), für die ich geringfügiges Interesse aufbringe, aber nicht so wie in vergangenen Jahren.

Stimmt schon, aber ich bezweifle, dass man am Pilot so viel ändern wird. Man wird wegen der Less-Commercials-Policy von FOX ein paar Szenen hinzufügen und die Serie vielleicht hier und da in der Mitte spannender machen, aber mir hat der Pilot schon storymäßig absolut gar nicht gefallen. Auch die Charaktere nicht, obwohl ich von Anna Torv schauspielerisch positiv überrascht war. Wenn mich die Serie einfach nicht interessiert, kann ich ihr noch so viele Chancen geben, es wird trotzdem nichts draus...

...wobei "Battlestar Galactica" mich anfangs auch gar nicht interessierte und ich es dann doch mochte, allerdings mochte ich da schon viele Elemente in der Mini-Serie, während mir bei "Fringe" außer der Cinematographie (bisher) gar nichts gefällt.

Klassischer Backdoor Pilot wie bei Knight Rider auch. Kommt der Pilot an, gibt es ne Serie, guckt den keiner, eben nicht.

Auf Kings freue ich mich neben Dollhouse auch am meisten, nur schade, dass die Serie nicht gleich im September startet und von den völlig überrissenen Olympia-Quoten auf NBC profitieren kann.......so sehe ich quotentechnisch leider eher schwarz für die Serie, genau wie auch für das ebenfalls interessant klingende "Merlin". Wenn diese beiden Serien starten, werden die Zuschauer ihr Programm meist schon gefunden haben auf einem der anderen 4 Sendern und kaum massenweise plötzlich zu NBC wechseln.......ausser die anderen Sender wären so blöd, NBC die Chance zu geben, die Serien gegen Wiederholungen auf den anderen Networks starten zu lassen...

Die gleichen schlechten Chancen wie alle Mid-Season-Starter ja, eben deshalb wünschte ich, dass sie bereits zu Beginn der Season starten würde, was ihr eine viel bessere Überlebenschance geben würde. Denn normalerweise überleben Mid-Season-Start-Serien die Season kaum.

Das ist natürlich die Krux des Midseasonstarts, die schon vielen Serien das Genick brach, bevor es wirklich losging. Kings sähe ich auf Grund des Konzepts aber auch in der Fall Season als gefährdet. Zumindest ist NBC ein Network, das nicht ganz so schnell absetzt, vor allem wenn es Kritikerlob gibt. Eigentlich unvorstellbar, dass Friday Night Lights in die 3. Season geht. Gemessen an den Quoten hätte man auch schon nach 13 Episoden den Stecker ziehen können.

ABC bestellte ein paar neue Pilots, die sich für mich zwar nicht sonderlich interessant anhören, aber um wirklich zu urteilen, ob für mich da was dabei ist, warte ich die Trailer ab.

ABC picks up three dramas, two comedies

UPDATED: ABC is ramping up its police procedural ranks with two new cop dramas planned for midseason.

The network picked up ABC Studios' "Castle” (starring Nathan Fillion as a horror novelist who helps the NYPD solve crimes) and Sony TV's "The Unusuals” (an ensemble dramedy set in a New York police precinct co-starring Amber Tamblyn) for series orders on Monday in addition to three other shows.

Along with the fall series "Life on Mars," the drama pickups give ABC some procedural guns for next season. Though the network has plenty of medical and legal shows, ABC has lacked a reliable stable from the police genre to call its own since “NYPD Blue” went off the air in 2005.

ABC also picked up Rob Thomas' "Cupid" (a one-hour reinvention of Thomas’ 1998 romantic comedy starring Bobby Cannavale) and a pair of half-hour single camera comedies -- 20th’s Victor Fresco laugher "Better Off Ted" (office comedy starring Jay Harrington as a moral guy trying to do right in an amoral world) as well as ABC Studios/DreamWorks’s comedy "Single With Parents" (Alyssa Milano who juggles her dysfunctional family, friends and boss) by ”How I Met Your Mother” producer Kristin Newman.

Because of the WGA-strike delays, the episodes were seen about six months after they were greenlit as pilots.

"It was worth taking the time to go through the pilot process to really do it right," said Steve McPherson, ABC's entertainment president. "We're excited about these series and feel they're perfect additions to our dominant core slate of shows."

Still no word on the fate of ABC's other limbo projects such as "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas," Alicia Silverstone's "Bad Mother's Handbook" and Damon Wayan's "Never Better," but sources indicate the above series orders are all that's receiving a greenlight at the moment.

"These are the initial pick-ups, but there are a number of other pilots we feel will also get the go ahead in some form moving forward," McPherson said.

The Unusuals


As a cop, it helps to have a twisted sense of humor—because every moment could be your last. Just ask Casey Shraeger. Writer Noah Hawley (a producer on Bones) confidently takes the police procedural into fresh, uncharted waters. Stephen Hopkins (24, Californication) directs.

Like any big city, New York has its share of characters. But the newest one isn't like the rest. For starters, his goal in life is to help people fall in love, which isn't such a bad thing. But he says he must create 100 happily-ever-afters in order to return to his home—Mount Olympus. Because he's Cupid, the ancient Roman god of love. Duh. He claims being punished by the other Gods for the modern world's sorry state of love, and was sent to Earth without his famed bow and arrow, to rediscover what really makes love work.

As fate would have it, Cupid, sometimes known as Trevor Hale, is under the care of famous psychologist and self-help author Dr. Claire Allen. Even though Claire disagrees with Trevor's methods, she can't argue with the sentiment, since she too is dedicated to helping lonely hearts find their soul mates. But these two experts in love couldn't be more different: he believes love blooms fast and carnal and passionate, while she thinks it grows slowly, moderately and sensibly. While he busies himself making matches, she endeavors to figure out who Trevor really is. Is he a man who's losing his mind after the loss of his one true love? Is he really crazy? Or (gulp) is he really Cupid?

From writer-creator Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) comes a re-imagining of his 1998 cult favorite series of the same name. Bobby Cannavale stars in this romantic-comedy procedural that will match up a new loving couple each week, though romance may not always bloom quite where we expect it to. This warm, witty series is a charming reminder that even though true love may be madness… it's the only thing keeping us sane.

For the team at Veridian Technologies, no achievement is too far-fetched. Need a suicidal turkey? Done. Need a metal that's as hard as steel, but bounces – and is edible? Done and done.

The head of the research and development department, Ted Crisp loves his job. He loves everything about it. He loves his super human boss, Veronica. He loves his colleagues, Lem, Phil and Linda. Especially Linda. But most of all, he loves what they do. Straddling the threshold between science and imagination, the R & D crew consistently turn the ridiculously impossible into the hilariously plausible.

The only problem with Ted's job is that ethics are not a part of company policy. As Ted says, "Work's not a question of right or wrong. It's only about success or failure." Luckily Ted has his precocious daughter, Rose to set him straight. But what happens when you start to take a closer look at your seemingly perfect job? Why is the company trying to cryogenically freeze one of Ted's scientists? What's with the new itchy chairs? Who's been stealing all of the creamer?

The new comedy from Emmy-Award nominated writer/producer, Victor Fresco (Mad About You, My Name is Earl) proves that it's not easy being a single father and a middle manager, but somebody's got to do it. After all, what would the world be without exploding pumpkins?

Meet Nan, Mary, and Charlotte: grandma, mother, and daughter, ages 48, 32, and 16. Do the math and you'll see Nan had Mary at 16. And Mary had Charlotte at the same age. And if history repeats (as it always seems to), Charlotte's about to follow suit – which means that Mom and Grandma have their work cut out for them. Happily, they all live together in one happy, hectic household, which means they can keep an eye on one another.

And there's a lot to look out for. Nan has had a glorious career as a Hollywood performer… if you define glorious as being an extra on one of the biggest movies ever. Mary's peers are a bunch of lackadaisical teachers and the self-important Principal Stoller, to whom she may be a little too attracted. Ich dachte Captain Cook wäre schon fest für diese Midseason bestellt? Hoffentlich wird das noch was. Eine der vielversprechendsten Ideen dieser Season und die junge Hauptdarstellerin hat mich in Terry Gilliams ansonsten enttäuschendem Tideland beeindruckt.

Von den bestellten Serien habe ich vom Konzept her nur bei der Cop-Dramedy mit Joan of Arcadia ein gutes Gefühl.
Das Fillion Crime Procedural-Vehikel könnte funktionieren, wenn man sich auf Fillions Stärken (Ironie) konzentriert. Lustig wäre es, wenn sich sein "Poker-Buddy" Stephen King in einer wiederkehrenden Gastrolle selbst spielen würde.

Bei Cupid konnte ich schon mit dem Original nichts anfangen und das hatte Jeremy Piven. Rob Thomas andere Serie "Good Behavior" hat von der Ausgangssituation großes Potential, aber das britische Remake des australischen Originals war furchtbar.
Prince of Motorcity hat einen erstaunlich namhaften Cast, aber das hört sich fast nach ner überfrachteten Edelsoap a la Cane an.
Bei den Comedies muss man die Pilotfolge abwarten.

Das Fillion Crime Procedural-Vehikel könnte funktionieren, wenn man sich auf Fillions Stärken (Ironie) konzentriert. Lustig wäre es, wenn sich sein "Poker-Buddy" Stephen King in einer wiederkehrenden Gastrolle selbst spielen würde.

Ich glaube auch, dass das klappen könnte. Dass er etwas mehr Mainstream machen muss als bei Firefly oder Drive, sonst bekommt der nie einen festen Job.

Yes, indeed. Die Show wird wie alle anderen neuen ABC-Serien erst zur Midseason starten, es sei denn irgendetwas von den letztjährigen Serien floppt hart und sie brauchen früher einen Lückenfüller. Aber selbst dann ist es unwahrscheinlich, dass sie die Serie vor der Midseason ins Line-Up quetschen.

"Prince Of Motorcity" und "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas" sind im Übrigen wohl nicht noch als Serien bestellt worden, weil man sich die Pilotfolgen noch nicht angesehen hat. "Good Behavior" dagegen schon, aber soll wohl trotzdem noch Chancen haben. Möglich ist, dass man auch mehrere Projekte eher für die 2009/2010-Season bestellt...
