Dawn Prestwich & Nicole Yorkin In Talks To Return To ‘The Killing’ As Exec Producers
AMC, Fox TV Studios and The Killing developer/executive producer Veena Sud are putting the team back together in anticipation of a formal green light for a third season of the mystery series to air on AMC and Netflix. Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, who served as co-executive producers in the first and second season, are in negotiations to return as executive producers.
Fox TV Studios already has the cast, including breakout stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, locked in for Season 3, which made a resurrection of the series, cancelled by AMC in July, an easier proposition. The show has been talking to key behind-the-scene auspices, including Prestwich and Yorkin to return, as Season 3 is eying a February production start. Veteran TV writer-producers Prestwich and Yorkin, who won a WGA Award for writing the pilot for CBS’ The Education Of Max Bickford, are with ICM Partners and Gendler & Kelly.

At the end of July, AMC closed the curtain on "The Killing" after a disappointing second season that saw flagging viewership and overall criticism for an arc that routinely saw the narrative spin its wheels. But, less than a month later, word emerged that both Netflix and DirecTV came calling, looking to team up with Fox TV Studios to revive the show. Then, a few weeks ago, AMC was back in the game, with reports that they might team with Netflix to make the third season happen. And well, for fans of the show, the good news is that the show is definitely coming back.
AMC has now set a late May 2013 bow for the third season, with development starting imminently. While Netflix's involvement isn't yet confirmed -- the deal hasn't been finalized -- it does seem as if AMC will be partnering with somebody to help share the costs, which seems to be the reason "The Killing" is coming back at all. As for the storyline, there's no word yet, however, Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos last we heard were apparently both already signed to return (though Variety suggests this may not be the case, but we can't really see the show happening without them) while Michelle Forbes and Brent Sexton may not come back. Billy Campbell is also uncertain at the moment.
Either way, "The Killing" really has to come back ferociously and with some purpose if it wants to survive past the third season. As we wrote about season two, "[it] soon turned into an irritating jerk around, resulting in a kind of blue balls for the audience." Hopefully the writers and showrunner Veena Sud have heard the criticism and are ready to have this show live up to its potential.

After making his mark with FX’s The Shield, Shawn Ryan is returning to cable with a new project, this time on the premium cable side. The Last Resort co-creator/executive producer has teamed with the freshman ABC drama’s co-executive producer Ron Fitzgerald for the HBO project titled Badlands.
Fitzgerald is writing the script based on a story he is writing with Rolin Jones. The two previously collaborated on The Knifeman adaptation for MRC, which had David Cronenberg attached to produce and direct. Badlands, produced by Sony TV where Ryan is under an overall deal, explores the challenges and joys of love and family, as well as the struggles of living in the blue-collar mining town of Tar River, Wyo, that’s fighting for its life during this economic hardship. Ryan, repped by WME and the Shuman Co., is now wrapping Last Resort, which didn’t receive a back order from ABC, and is working with Eddie Murphy on their Beverly Hills Cop pilot at CBS.

The series is set in 1920s and ’30s Berlin, an electrifying, chaotic city at the forefront of literature, art and science. The book’s accounts of American diplomats and correspondents who witnessed Hitler and the Nazis’ rise to power will be woven into a fictional tapestry of political intrigue, pursuit of power, and personal danger — set against the backdrop of the most sexually and artistically liberated city in the world. “Berlin during the 1920s and ’30s was so alive, so filled with promise, so incredibly modern — even today, much of what we think of as new or avant-garde was created then,” Herskovitz said. “And it’s equally important — in light of the dark forces in our world today — to understand how a group like the Nazis ever came to power.”

Sean Bean has been cast as the lead in TNT’s drama pilot Legends executive produced by Homeland‘s Howard Gordon. The Game Of Thrones alum replaces Brendon Fraser, who was originally cast in the role but exited the project last month.
Based on the novel by Robert Littell, Legends centers on Martin Odum (Bean), a deep-cover operative who has an uncanny ability to transform himself into a different person for each job. Gordon, Jeffrey Nachmanoff and Mark Bomback developed Legends, which is produced by Fox 21.

Alex Winter has sold his Midwestern militia pitch to AMC. The former Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure star will pen the hour-long drama with his writing partner Steven Pearl. Tentatively titled Rights Of Bill, the show centers on a Sheriff who forms his own militia in Wisconsin, becoming both the law and an outlaw simultaneously.

Vielleicht wäre Sean Bean dann auch so was wie der Pretender.
