Mit The Leftovers ist die Genrelücke bereits geschlossen. Mit Westworld würde bei einer Bestellung der GOT Nachfolger schon während deren letzten Jahren auf Sendung gehen. Das Utopia Remake hat mit Fincher auch beste Chancen. Zugzwang besteht da nicht.

Leftovers ist in den 3 Folgen die ich bisher gesehen habe, auch im überwiegenden Maße ein reines Charakterdrama und keineswegs in die Genre-Schublade (was man im üblichen Sinne darunter versteht) zu stecken.

Westwold und Utopia wären wie ich schon sagte Kandidaten in dem Bereich, aber nach all dem was ich da so die letzten Jahre "miterlebt" habe, wäre ich ganz ganz vorischtig, bereits jetzt schon davon zusprechen, dass diese gute Chancen auf eine Bestellung haben.

Amazon Studios‘ third pilot cycle continues to grow, with the company quietly greenlighting two more pilots, drama The Man In the High Castle and comedy Just Add Magic.

Based on Philip K. Dick’s Hugo Award-winning novel, The Man In the High Castle hails from The X-Files alum Frank Spotnitz and Scott Free. Written by Spotnitz and to be directed by David Semel (Legends), the project set in 1962 explores an alternative reality in which Nazi Germany and Japan won World War II and occupy the United States, with the East Coast controlled by the Nazis and the West Coast owned by Japan, and a chunk of the Midwest still up for grabs. Fascism rules and the few surviving Jews hide under assumed names. But an aging Hitler has one foot in the grave, and the Japanese are preparing for an imminent Nazi stab in the back. The U.S. Resistance is scattered, scared, or crushed. The project originally was set up as a four-hour miniseries at Syfy last year.

“The Man In High Castle is one of Dick’s most imaginative and captivating works and certainly one of my favorites,” Scott Free’s Ridley Scott said at the time. Scott, of course, directed the 1982 Blade Runner, one of several feature adaptations of Dick’s books, along with two versions of Total Recall (1990 and 2012), Minority Report (2002) and The Adjustment Bureau (2011). Spotnitz, Semel and Scott Free are repped by WME.

Written by Joanna Lewis, Kristine Songco and Nancy Cohen and to be directed by Joe Nussbaum (Sydney White), Just Add Magic centers on three 12-year-old girls and best friends, whose lives change when one of them, whose passion is baking, discovers in her attic a strange old recipe book, with recipes for baked goods that also have powerful spells. Lewis and Songco are repped by APA and The Gotham Group. Nussbaum is with WME and Principato Young.

The Man In High Castle and Just Add Magic joins Amazon’s third pilot slate that also includes Mad Dogs, The Cosmopolitans, Hand Of God, Red Oaks, Hysteria, Cocked, Point Of Honor, Salem Rogers: Model Of The Year 1998, Down Dog, The Outlaws and Really.

Im dritten Durchlauf sind so viele vielversprechende Projekte in Amazons Pilotrunde wie nie zuvor. Freu mich auf die Veröffentlichung schon jetzt deutlich mehr als auf die ganzen Network Piloten. Qualitativ könnten viele davon überzeugen, aber wenn sie bei Man in the High Castle nicht wieder den Schottenrock anhaben, hat das die besten Chancen ihr erster Hit zu werden. Für Spotnitz sprechen Akte X und Strike Back UK, aber Hunted soll ja ziemlich öde für einen Thriller gewesen sein? Hab's noch nicht begonnen.

AMC continues to explore new places and genres with a pilot order to White City, a geopolitical drama focused on Western diplomats and journalists living in Afghanistan. An adventure story set in the somewhat surreal ex-pat world of near-present Afghanistan, White City was among the scripts vying for a pilot order at the network’s 2014 annual script showcase held in the spring.

The show focuses on Jon Liston, a war junkie who has spent the better part of the last decade in Kabul with a front-row seat to the carnage. In the pilot, against the advice of everyone from American embassy staffers to tweeting tribal leaders to the French journalist he’s in a relationship with, Jon tragically overreaches in an attempt to talk with insurgent leaders. In the series, Jon must find a new role in Kabul as he attempts to address his guilt, frustration and doubts about whether there is good left for him or any Westerner to do in Afghanistan.

Executive producers are Chris Mundy, a former journalist for Rolling Stone and showrunner of Criminal Minds and AMC’s Low Winter Sun, and Tom Freston, the former CEO of Viacom and a former resident of Afghanistan who is currently an advisor to VICE and MOBY Group, an Afghan media corporation. “This is a story born from a creative team in Chris, John, Nick and Tom that has both an incredibly deep understanding of one of the most misunderstood regions of the world, and a fantastic sense of how to tell a compelling story about the lives of people who are drawn to the world’s hot spots,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s EVP of original programming, production and digital content. “It’s not a war story, it’s a character story that will tackle some of the most complicated issues of our time.” White City joins AMC’s other drama pilots, Galyntine and Knifeman, both well into casting and production.

Interessantes und ewig brisantes Thema, aber es überrascht schon, dass immer noch so viele Nahost-Dramen und Thriller produziert werden, obwohl langsam bekannt sein sollte, dass da kein Quotenhit zu erwarten ist und das die Gefahr riesig ist, wieder irgendwelche Interessen-Organisationen oder die selbstgerechten Gutmenschen unter den Kritikern gegen sich aufzubringen. Allein schon der Titel könnte für manch empörtes Essay reichen. :lol:

Outcast, the exorcism drama project from The Walking Dead executive producer Robert Kirkman, is moving to a pilot stage at Cinemax.

Kirkman made the announcement on Twitter from Comic-Con, where he is with the AMC zombie drama which has its always-popular panel presentation in Hall H. In his pilot writing debut, Kirkman penned Outcast on spec for The Walking Dead international partner Fox International Channels, which developed the project internally before taking it out. Cinemax acquired the script last November. Like The Walking Dead, Outcast too is based on a comic by Kirkman, who will serve as executive producer alongside David Alpert of Circle of Confusion, Sue Naegle, Chris Black, and Sharon Tal Yguado of FIC. The project follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now an adult, he embarks on a journey to find answers, but what he uncovers could mean the end of life on Earth as we know it.

White City spricht mich thematisch zwar an, aber damit wird AMC garantiert baden gehen. Ich gehe davon aus, dass es beim Pilot bleibt.

An eine Vaterland-Serienadaption musste ich bei der Meldung auch denken. :lol: Der HBO Film war zwar für sich gesehen ganz ordentlich, aber aus dem Stoff könnte man schon deutlich mehr rausholen.

Amazon.com is significantly boosting spending on original video content in the current quarter, expecting to shell out more than $100 million in the period for productions it has in the pipeline.


That higher investment for the third quarter of 2014 represents a significant increase from Amazon’s spending in Q2, as well as a big jump year over year, CFO Tom Szkutak said on the company’s earnings call Thurdsay. During the third quarter, Amazon Studios will “be in heavy production” on series that it recently greenlit as well as several pilots it has ordered, he said.

“In terms of (video) content, we’ve seen just more and more Prime members are streaming free content,” Szkutak said. “When you look at the service that we have today, it’s improved dramatically over the past 12 to 24 months. And we really think it’s a great service and that’s why we’re investing in it.”

Amazon Studios, the e-commerce giant’s original video entertainment production group, is pouring more money into new shows as it looks to compete with the top dog in the subscription-video space, Netflix. Previously, Amazon has not disclosed details of how much it has been putting into originals, and Szkutak’s disclosure of the Q3 plans on the call indicates spending on originals is now more than a rounding error in terms of costs.

Netflix execs last fall said the company would double spending on original content in 2014. But overall, CFO David Wells said at the time, its investments in original content will represent less than 10% of overall global content spending. Netflix expects to spend $3.2 billion in 2014 on streaming content globally, which implies the company’s original programming costs will be less than $320 million for the year.

This spring, Amazon ordered six full series including supernatural thriller “The After” from Chris Carter (“X-Files”), pictured above, and “Transparent” from writer-director Jill Soloway. Amazon Studios bowed its first two shows, comedies “Alpha House” and “Betas,” last fall.

In addition, it has greenlit at least 10 pilots to be part of its third pilot wave later this year, including: “The Cosmopolitans,” “Hand of God,” “Hysteria,” “Point of Honor,” “Really,” “The Man In High Castle,” “Just Add Magic,” “The Outlaws,” and “Red Oaks” from Steven Soderbergh.

Ohne zu wissen, wieviele der Piloten im 3ten Quartal gedreht werden und welche der bereits bestellten Serien gerade im Dreh sind, lassen sich da immer noch keine genauen Schlüsse ziehen, aber es lässt zumindest hoffen, dass Amazon nicht mehr nur auf eine vergleichsweise große Masse an eigenen (Low Budget-) Serien setzt, sondern wenn nötig auch gezielt zu größeren Investitionen bereit ist. Es muss ja kein GOT oder auch nur Walking Dead Level sein, aber ein bisschen mehr Kinofeeling als beim The After Piloten (von Zombieland ganz zu schweigen) möchte ich bei der Dick Adaption schon sehen.

Sam Raimi Plans 'Evil Dead' TV Series, 'Last of Us' Film

The "Spider-Man" director is going back to his roots for a TV series, while also developing Sony's hit video game into a feature — possibly with a "Game of Thrones" actress in tow.

You wouldn't have found Sam Raimi's name on any of the schedules for Friday's Comic-Con programming, but the director dropped by to announce that he's currently working on an Evil Dead TV series, which he's co-writing with his brother Ivan.

Even better, he's planning to draft Bruce Campbell — star of the first three Evil Dead films — to topline the series as well. Neither Raimi nor Campbell had any material involvement with the Evil Dead remake that hit theaters in 2013.

Raimi also confirmed that's he's producing a Last of Us film for Screen Gems, to be adapted from the apocalyptic 2013 PlayStation game. The game's writer, Neil Druckmann, will tackle the script, but no director has been set. Both Raimi and Druckmann mentioned that they've met with Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams about joining the cast, presumably as Ellie, the young survivor at the heart of the game.

Wenn man nicht in Army of Darkness Gefilde wandert, kann ich mir zwar nur schwer vorstellen, wie man daraus mehr als eine Miniserie machen will (Teil 2 war ja letztlich auch nur ein Remake), aber für mich als großen Tanz der Teufel Fan, ist das eine äußerst vielversprechende Nachricht. Vor allem, wenn Bruce als Ash dabei sein sollte und es auf einem Pay-TV-Service landet.

btw. Last of Us kenne ich nur von Bildern, aber das scheint ja auch großes Potential für einen atmosphärischen Endzeit-Streifen zu bieten.

Nach dem David Simon letztes Jahr in einem seiner Kotzbrocken-Interviews andeutete, dass er vielleicht nicht zurückkommt, freut es mich zu sehen, dass er jetzt eine neue Miniserie dreht. Mit Isaac und Keener hat man auch zwei interessante Leads. Dennoch hoffe ich auf ein paar Neuentdeckungen. Die gehörten zu den Stärken von The Wire, Generation Kill und Treme.

Da Generation Kill für mich die beste "Staffel" ist, die Simon je geschaffen hat, würde ich ihn lieber mal wieder etwas außerhalb seiner Komfortzone sehen, aber interessant wird sicherlich auch diese Lehrstunde.

Ist doch meistens so mit selbstverliebten Künstlern. Je lauter sie von ihrem Rücktritt reden, umso schneller kommen sie zurück, weil sie im Grunde doch nur ihr Ego gestreichelt haben wollen und gar nicht mehr ohne die Aufmerksamkeit können. :lol:

Die Show wurde zwar nicht offiziell abgesetzt, aber es besteht für mich kein Zweifel daran, dass die Show tot ist. Sie war ein Flop und wenn eine Verlängerung denkbar gewesen wäre, hätte es die innerhalb des letzten Jahres gegeben.

Ja, die Show ist definitiv hinüber. Von den "Darstellern" bekommt man via Twitter immer mal wieder die 08/15-Aussage "Wir wollen alle weiter machen, aber noch gibts kein grünes Licht von NBC". Das wird auch nie kommen. Schade - die Serie war faszinierend trashig und wenn man eine Erklärung für alles hatte, dann hätte ich die schon gern gesehen.

Die satten Steuersubvention die Teen Wolf für Staffel 5 bekommt stammt aus den Gewinnen der kalifornischen Staatslotterie (in Deutschland dürfen die Gewinne aus den Lotterien nur für ''wohltätige'' Zwecke ausgeben werden, angefangen bei den Gehältern der Vorstandmitgliedern der Lottogesellschaften...aber das ist eine andere Geschichte).

Das ist keine Überraschung (eigentlich war das ein ''no brainer'').
Wesentlich spannender finde ich die Frage, ob USA Rush und/oder Satisfaction eine S2 gönnt.
Aktuell ist mein Tipp: Rush ja, Satisfaction nein.
